If you look at articles written by Koreans on the Internet, you will often hear expressions like '갈아넣다.(galaneohda)' and '털리다(teollida)' Koreans tend to use this expression as slang these days.

So, when do Koreans use this expression?

1. 갈아넣다(galaneohda)

'갈다(galda)' has the same meaning as grind. These days, Koreans use '나(I)' or '영혼(soul)' in front of it to say, "I grinded my soul" grinding my soul.... If you translate it literally, it's a terrible expression, isn't it?

However, this expression has the meaning of 'to make an effort' and 'to achieve'. this expression is mainly used when doing creative activities, studying, or working. when you create or achieve something by pouring your time and passion into it, you say, 'I grind my soul'

As another expression, it is used when feeling surprised or admiring. for example, let's say Samsung launched a high-tech product that was ahead of its time. Then, when Koreans post a ripple on the article or talk about it, they say "How many 공돌이 did you grind it??" (공돌이(gongdol-i) is a low-key term for a man who attends a technical high school or engineering college, or a man who works in a factory.)

2. 털리다(teollida)

The original meaning of this word is 'be dusted(off), be brushed(off)' and 'be[get] robbed (of), be stolen'. However, like '갈아넣다', I would like to tell you the meaning of the slang term.

This expression is mainly used 'when you have been insulted'. It is mainly used when talking about games or company life. In the former case, it is sometimes used in place of harsh and various expressions such as '발리다(ballida)' and '따이다(ttaida)', but in corporate life, only the expression '털리다' is used.

- Game : This is used when the boss of the stage or the other player is horribly defeated during PVP. 'Ah.... I lost(털렸다) to him

- Corporate life : when you are offended by your boss, you express it by saying 'Ah.... my boss scolded(털렸다) me'

When the severity is severe, the onomatopoeic word '탈탈(taltal)' is added in front of it to express it as '탈탈 털렸다.' and if the boss has been scolded for a long time or severely offended, it is sometimes expressed as 'I went into the thresher and came out'

Since the expression '털리다' is a humorous way of expressing one's actions, it is best not to use it in public places if possible.

Also, this expression is used when you lose a fight or break a tooth. they sat, '강냉이가 털렸다(gangnaeng-iga teollyeossda.)'. in this case, the word in front of it, '강냉이', means 'corn'. this is because the teeth resemble corn, so it is called '강냉이'

Today, I posted the expressions '갈아넣다' and '털리다' which are words used by Koreans on the Internet. I will end today's post in hopes of helping you study Korean. Thanks for reading.
